Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals Inc to Build Methanol Plant

Japan’s Mitsui  Chemicals Inc plans to build the world’s first demonstration methanol plant with capacity of 100 tonnes per year, that utilizes 150-160 tonnes of emitted carbon dioxide (CO2) from its Osaka plant, Japan.

The methanol plant construction will be started from October 2008 and finished in February 2009, and requires investment cost of US$ 13.6 millions.

Methanol from this plant is then used for production of petrochemical products, such as ethylene, propylene and aromatic chemicals.
